About Us
Our main goals are to create community, provide aid to citizens and local organizations, and to progress the leftist/socialist movement in Central Oregon through education, dialogue, and activism.
We believe that no one is free under capitalism and that many of the social, environmental, political, etc issues of our era can be solved under a socialist system.
We run a bi-weekly book club for leftist education and are constantly planning new events. Check out the home page for a link to our Discord and the events page for our planned events.
COS Political Platform
Advocacy | Actively participating in our communities to identify the needs of the people, locally and worldwide. We advocate for issues such as decolonization, environmentalism, racial justice, LGBTQ+ and indigenous rights, and class consciousness, all in the interest of improving the quality of life of all people.
Community Building| We seek to create spaces for people to come together at social events, protests, mutual aid actions, fundraisers, and other calls to serve the community. Fostering a safe community for leftists to co-exist is one of our primary goals.
Education| We believe that decolonization starts internally, and that knowledge equips us to change the world around us in a constructive way. Freedom and education are part of a collective process rather than individual ones; thus we aim to create an environment for learning that is liberating, and includes people of all backgrounds in reexamining and reshaping our current systems of knowledge.
Leadership | Our moderators are diverse and open to constructive criticism. We strive to be a safe space for a wide range of people who are interested in socialism and other far-left ideologies. Our goal is to collaborate actively with all members, and to lead from the bottom up.
Our Line
1. We believe in practice. Using our ideology, guided by socialist theory, to enact real world change through analysis, discussion, planning, and action.
2. We believe that capitalism is inherently exploitative, as profit under capitalism is extorted from the working class through theft by the capitalist ruling class. We advocate for a socialist system where the working class keeps the full value of their labor in a democratically planned economy.
3. We believe the imperialist American state needs to be dismantled, not reformed. The U.S. commonwealth system should be abolished and all territories should be allowed to practice self determination. Dismantling imperialism also involves breaking the capitalist, colonial culture that is so deeply ingrained in western society.
4. Finally, we believe that police and politicians of both parties are just cogs in the machine, who serve to insulate the ultra-wealthy ruling class against the interests of the workers. We don’t collaborate with the police, nor do we work within the two party political system, because we can’t build a new world with old tools.
